Ballbusterhardmusic.com review of 'thirty pieces'

by Travis Bain

Devil To Pay's music is good, dirty, and straight to the point metal. This is a band that does not care what people think. After the first song you know it will be an interesting listen.

The song "Mouthful of Spite," has awesome guitar riffs that any head banger can love. To be honest at first I did not like singer Steve Janiak's voice, which was monotone and boring, but after the first couple of songs he grew on me. "Tractor Fuckin' Trailer," which is a ballad compared to the rest of the album with a slow groaning guitar sound, has deep raspy vocals and lyrics with "she's a good kick in the nuts," proved me wrong about Janiak's vocal ability. I was also proved wrong again by guitarist Rob Secrist, who does not play many guitar solos, but when he does it adds contrast and another element to the album. With the song "Swathe," the guitar solo is laid back yet aggressive, technical, and brutally stunning.

This album had everything for everyone from intriguing lyrics, thick and heavy guitar riffs, and all around good catchy rock songs. Overall, I was impressed by this band because they are just straight to the bone good ol' American metal. For the past few weeks I have had this CD play non-stop and haven't gotten sick of it yet. This is a definite listen to anyone who wants a band that gives the finger to corporate radio rock and creates their own musical path.
