Candy for Bad Children Review of 'thirty pieces'
I bet the guys in Indy's Devil to Pay used to ride around in an '83 Impala listening to Soundgarden's "Louder Than Love" when they were in high school. Well, maybe that was me, but these Midwest rockers have the same feel, and lots of facial hair and flowing tresses to boot, but they are by no means Seattle grungers. Equal parts metal and stoner rock with some doom sprinkled in for flavor, Devil to Pay is loaded with the fine musicianship of Rob Secrist on guitar, Chad Prifogle on drums and Matt Stokes on bass, aided by the John Garcia-like vocals of Steve Janiak (who also plays guitar). These guys play with a precision rarely seen in a debut album. Well written and recorded, every metal and stoner fan will enjoy nodding their head to killer tracks like "The Lamb," "Angular Shapes" and "Valley of the Dogs." - Hornetgirl
