DEVIL TO PAY Thirty Pieces of Silver
Rating: 6/10
Alice in Chains alike vocals, guitars with a heavy overdrive, sometimes even a bit doomy, but most of all a hell of a load stonerrock that would describe the new debut album from Devil To Pay called “Thirty Pieces Of Silver” best. The stonerrockfans should like this album, other metal heads or hard-rockers will probably no more than appreciate this debut album because it isn’t exactly original. After hearing "Thirty Pieces of Silver" twice, it might bore you. Steve’s vocals sound pretty good for a song or two, but if you listen to this CD twice (or maybe even once) the vocals are becoming to sound whiney.

That really is a shame, because he could do so much more with his voice, it needn't be whiney at all. The problem is, although the songs aren’t bad; they sure can handle their instruments well, all the songs just blend together. While listening I sometimes forgot I was even listening. The individual songs cannot be recognized quickly, and that can never be a good sign. Anyhow, if you take the time listening you’ll discover the talent they have, and maybe all we have to do is await a next album with more variation and hopefully a more alternate use of vocals as well.
