Devil to Pay is the newest act signed to Ripple Music, a Northern California label known for giving exposure to underground metal acts of yesteryear as well as emerging bands such as Fen and Mighty High.

Steve Janiak, vocalist-guitarist in Devil to Pay, lauded the independent label for its dedication to finding musical gems. “The Ripple guys ended up releasing records as a natural progression from being big music fans,” Janiak said. “They started out as a blog dedicated to unheralded albums and artists called the Ripple Effect. They’re passionate about sharing some great music.”

Indianapolis-based Devil to Pay issued debut album “Thirty Pieces of Silver” in 2004. “Cash is King” followed in 2006, and “Heavily Ever After” arrived in 2009.

Janiak, bass player Matt Stokes, drummer Chad Prifogle and guitarist Rob Hough will record new music for Ripple before the year’s end.

In a recent 7-inch single review posted at the Ripple Effect blog, Devil to Pay was commended for not being “a straight doom band, or stoner, or sludge, Devil to Pay do it all, and even toss a little grunge, classic rock, and straight ahead groove metal into their mix.”

Janiak said a friend initially submitted the band’s music to Ripple’s management.

“He insisted we were too good to keep slugging away on our own and offered to pass some music along,” Janiak said. “The Ripple guys heard it and dug it. We had a conversation and hit it off. That was that.”

Devil to Pay will play a hometown show on July 28 at Sun King Brewery, 135 N. College Ave.
