[loosely translated from French]
Album: Fate Is Your Muse - Group: Devil To Pay
CD Stoner appeared in 2013 under the label Other label
Although he came from the same scene in Indianapolis as The Gates Of Slumber and Apostle Of Solitude (which it shares a member, guitarist and singer Steve Janiak), Devil To Pay does not have equal notoriety, perhaps because the first three albums were released on obscure record labels.

After a delay of nearly a dozen years we discover today with the release of 'Fate Is Your Muse', this group deserves better than the relative anonymity in which it floundered since its inception. Despite common heavy musical roots, Devil To Pay Doom sounds less like The Gates Of Slumber and Apostle Of Solitude, even when listening to a song like "Yes Master" where the heavy guitars sound like they are tuned lower than the earth which has nothing to envy the anvils forged by them.

Better, the Yanks sculpt a hot, dusty metal sprinkled with tanned skin and rough riffs. The album shoots twelve rounds; songs with nerve ("This Train Will not Stop"), sometimes oozing a Southern fever ("Tie One On") and an ultra-heavy strength. "The Naked Truth" or "Already Dead" and demonstrate like a rhythmic lumberjack, a heavy foundation forms the basis for this album.

But beyond this casting armor in this typical lead steelworks U.S., Devil To Pay demonstrated a certain finesse in this way to uncheck lines devastating six-strings and galloping, such as shearing "Black Black Heart" or completing the weighing terminal and "Beyond The Ether", as they know how to compose a powerful melodic songs, such as this "Prepare To Die" ideal mouthing or the "Wearin' You Down" to the irresistible hook.

No bad songs or fillers despite a good fifty minutes, 'Fate Is The Muse' is the biggest little album that may never get the success it deserves, despite its quality. This has the potential to unite a broad audience not just those baptised at Doom Chapel but not frighten off lovers of the heavy. Quite a discovery that ultimately makes you want to dive into their three previous albums. If these are similar, the band will have great days ahead, guaranteed!
