“Devil to Pay” is an Indianapolis-based band that formed 10 years ago. After several issues along the way, the band managed to stay intact and recently released their latest album, entitled “Fate is your Muse.” The album has 13 tracks that are sure to appeal to anyone that has a passion for Rock and metal with a nostalgic sound. They cover topics such as reincarnation, the end of the world, and the line between fantasy and reality. These guys know how to rock and they do it well.

I was surprised that I have never heard of Devil to Pay until now. I grew up listening to the Rock genre because my Dad was such a huge fan of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Alice Cooper. After listening to “Fate is your Muse,” I can hear bit and pieces of the album that were clearly influenced by those great rock bands. The instrumentals have that great old-school Rock feeling and the guitar riffs were unlike anything I have heard in the last couple of years. Coupled with the thoughtfully complex lyrics and the perfectly complementing vocals, this album was very well constructed and the pacing was just right. The stands-out songs for me on this album were “Already Dead” and “Savonarola.”

The only minor gripe I could find with the album was that it might not appeal to those that aren’t fans of Rock. Personally, I don’t think it has to because this band stays true not only to themselves and their fans, but also to the Rock genre as a whole. If you love Rock music, you have to check out “Fate is your Muse” and Devil to Pay. If these guys aren’t rock legends already, they will be for sure soon. For those reasons, I am giving this album a “A-.”
